NEW YORK (AP) The city’s top indoor clothing retailers are getting outdoor treatment with the opening of more than 400 outlets.
More than 1,400 stores in more than 20 markets opened to the public on Friday, with the majority of them located in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island.
Many of the stores are outdoor clothing sellers, but the selection will include both indoor and outdoor gear.
The new outlets were among more than 100 stores in the New York State Department of Health’s Outdoor and Sports Centers program, which promotes outdoor recreation.
New York State also is adding outdoor fitness programs and a number of other outdoor recreational events to its Outdoor Education Program, which has expanded to more than 3,000 locations in more that 100 cities.
