By Sarah Brumby, CBC News/Toronto StarA Barts outdoor-wear retailer, located on King St. West in downtown Toronto, will close for renovations and a new store.
The company said it expects to be closed for the rest of the year.
The store will remain open for shopping, and it will have a separate retail space for those who want to go to the store.
“It will have the same layout and the same merchandise, but we will have some new, new, more comfortable seating,” said the company’s president, Scott Williams.
“We’ll have a different store.
We’re going to be able to do more shopping.”
The store is in the same building as a Barts pharmacy, and the company has been selling food, drink and other products to the neighbourhood since 2013.
Williams said the renovations will be needed to keep the shop open and the staff engaged.
Barts will also be opening up a new outdoor clothing store in its location.
The new store will open this summer, and Williams said it will be a more casual store, like the one in the existing Barts store.
Williams has been in business for more than 25 years and has been open to the idea of a store opening up in the neighbourhood.
The Barts and St. Patrick’s Day events have been held in the area for decades, and Barts has been one of the neighbourhood’s biggest vendors in recent years.
Williams was asked about the decision to close.
“We have been very supportive of the community, and of the St. Patricks Day,” he said.
“I think that’s what we’re trying to do.
We hope that’s something that people want.”
The new store is expected to be open by summer, he said, and will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday.
